Visual Modality Design to Support Driver Interaction

Visual Modality Design to Support Driver
Interaction in Automated Vehicles

This project investigates how tailored visual modalities can help drivers recognize and respond to safety-critical situations during automated driving. I conducted scenario-driven user research and designed visual alerts for three high-risk conditions—Pedestrian Detection, Vehicle Approaching, and Roadwork—based on a structured Information → Warning → Event framework. Using Unity and Figma, I developed interface prototypes mapped to HUD, mirrors, and center display locations. The final designs align urgency with spatial context to improve clarity, response timing, and driver confidence in transitional scenarios.
